Roast Level

light roast

Tucked away in the secluded eastern reaches of Nariño, the community of Santafé holds extraordinary potential for cultivating exceptional coffee. Toldopamba, our partner in the region, provides valuable support to local growers, such as technical assistance and quality control. We’ve focused our sourcing here since 2016, inspired by the organization's strength and exceptional cup quality. This big-bodied, chocolatey cup is sweet like raw sugar cane, deepened by raisin-like dried fruit undertones.

The community of Santafé has been producing coffee since the 1960s and until recently, selling their coffees for minimum market prices to traders in a nearby town. That all changed in 2016, thanks to the work of husband and wife team, Carlos Torres Burbano and Angela Patiño Findlay. Carlos, the son of coffee producers, is endlessly curious about coffee processing and Angela is trained in coffee quality assessment. Together, and with Counter Culture as a buying partner, they provide on-the-ground technical assistance and in-the-moment quality feedback to farmers, helping these growers improve their coffees and garner higher premiums through our purchases.
